GPMW CHANGES

Luci Murphy has found it necessary to resign as Convenor and member of the Steering Commiittee. as of October 18 . We are very grateful for all the thought and time she has given us and the troubles she has seen us through. She remains a dedicated Gray PAnther.

Also, Mary McCall has resigned from the Steering Committee. We are appreciate all the service she has given us.

The Hiring Committee has been interviewing applicants for the position of Executive Director. It hopes to have made a decision by the middle of November.

GPMW SUPPORT SINGLE PAYER RALLIES

On July 26, members of GPMW attended a rally at Malcolm X Park in support of Single Payer health care. Speakers included Joel Segal, aide to Senator Conyers, and Rick Tingling-Clemmons, GPMW members. On July 30, GPMW will attend a national rally at 1 pm at the Upper Senate Park outside the Capitol building. Rep. John Conyers will be one of the speakers. GPMW holds Membership Meeting

On June 26 GPMW elected a new steering commitee, with Jennifer Babcock as new member, at the Stewart Mott House. Louis Wolf and Nia Kuumba were recipients of the the Geraldine Brittain Award, and Florence Pendleton, former Shadow Senator for DC, received certificate of appreciation and recognition for her work through the years. A highlight of the meeting was he appearance of Dr Margaret Flowers, president of the Maryland Physicians for a National Health Plan (single payer, of course). Dr Flowers had been arrested earlier for speaking out at a Senator Baucus Health Care Forum on Capitol Hill.

GPMW MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND GERALDINE BRITTAN ANNUAL AWARD
Presentation on Single Payer Health Care

On Friday June 26 the Gray Panthers of Metropolitan Washington will hold their annual Steering Committee election and General Membership meeting. This will be held at the Washington Home of Stewart Mott, 122 Maryland Avenue NE, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. It will begin with a time to "meet, greet, and eat", and at 6 pm the election will take place. Any new business can be brought up after this, and then the Annual Geraldine Brittain Award willbe presented to Nia Kuumba and Louis Wolf. Also, a Certificate of Appreciation will be presented to Florence Pendleton, former DC Shadow Senator.

Following these events, Dr, Margaret Flowers will give a presentation on Single Payer Health Care and the its difficulties in gaining acceptance. This will be followed by discussing and strategizing about Single Payer Health Care.

The meeting and presentation are open to all.
